Despite not actually being President, Obama is playing Imaginary President minus the styrofoam columns and delivering addresses promising to save us all. By spending lots more money of course. And more big government. Because you know how well "creating jobs" with big government and huge projects has worked for Communist countries. I'm sure it'll work great here.
Here's the pre-op
Investment is supposed to be the new buzz word to confuse people into thinking that we're not actually spending money.
First we "invested" trillions into banks and assorted unknown companies. Now we'll invest lots more money.
Now investing can be the new wasting money. e.g. "Hey Fred, I just invested 100 bucks in some gadget off TV that will let me cut my own hair".
But here's the President of Kenya.
Action now! Questions later! We won't throw money at the problem. We'll throw money adjacent to the problem and at things that aren't even the problem! That's the Obama way!
Wasn't the bailout supposed to already help Wall Street recovery? Instead it's failed to do that. So now we'll be kicking back even more money to Obama's Wall Street buddies... which will somehow save us money.
So what is this plan that will create lots of jobs, save our economy and apparently Wall Street too, while getting rid of foreign oil, improving schools... and will somehow save us money. And make our hair shiny and our carpets stain resistant.
Yeah this is so not the Washington way... when there's a serious problem, spend money on a trendy proposal that doesn't actually accomplish anything remotely related to the problem.
So no throwing money at the problem. Let's throw money at an entirely unrelated problem! The first plank in Obama's economy recovery package, naturally is not about economic recovery. Does Obama even know what "Economic Recovery" means? But apparently Obama is set to label any program that will cost money and will involve paying people, an economic recovery program. So now we can look forward to the Obama Economic Recovery Easter Egg Hunt too.
Now how much will making public buildings more energy efficient cost versus how much it will save, say over the next four years? In the real world.
Still nothing to do with economic recovery. So Obama is O for 2 now.
And at a time when the national debt has skyrocketed, Federal spending is at an all time high and businesses are closing-- Obama will solve the problem by spending a lot more money on bridges and roads. Now bridges and roads may be needed, but they sure as hell are not going to save our economy.
How about instead of finding more ways to "invest" precious taxpayer money, the government might let taxpayers keep more of their money to live on.
Job loss naturally comes from businesses being forced to close or cut back on their workers. When you want to create jobs, you need to create conditions that will help businesses. As opposed to spending our way deeper into debt.
But Obama's goal isn't to help the economy, but to sabotage it further, while spreading lots of pork around to dull the pain. The result will be a bad economy, heavy tax burdens on businesses and a huge whomping Federal government under him.
O for 3. So far none of the three planks of Obama's plan are about economic recovery, but conventional government initiatives bizarrely mislabeled as Economic Recovery plans, in the belief that people who voted for Obama are too stupid to understand the difference anyway.
And based on their level of stupidity, he's probably right.
Again modernizing and upgrading schools and putting computers in classrooms has zippity doo dah to do with economic recovery. It might be a worthwhile thing to do on its own merits, but it's not an economic recovery plan.
So far Obama has done the equivalent of coming into a Science Fair with a book report on American history and reads it smiling for the camera, and points out that he had to use a computer to type the report, so it's really just like science.
Again, really not an economic recovery plan. And does every child actually need broadband as opposed to dial up, simply to be competitive? Dial up is fine for basic internet use. Broadband is more likely to be required for video and more high end internet use.
Coming to the end of Obama's speech about his economic recovery plan... there's one thing missing, an actual economic recovery plan.
These are grand spending plans on unrelated matters, that might create a few jobs here and there while they're temporarily being implemented, and might save a fraction of the money they would cost.
Which might be nice... but...not...an... economic... recovery... plan. Say it with me, George.
Maybe if Obama gives a speech on broadband, we can actually hear about his economic recovery plan.
Future parts of the economic recovery plan will involve putting an ice cream parlor in every DMV office, fill duck ponds with wireless cell phones and teach the world to sing.
So now Obama will be shoving a hyper expensive plan through congress with current projected price tags even by the media, in the hundreds of billions of dollars. Urgently! So no one has any time to think about it.
But this is not an economic recovery plan. It's a "Let's Spend Lotsa Money on Feelgood Things" plan. The only jobs it will create are strictly temporary.
Go "invest" yourself.
Meanwhile people are being taxed to death, and that is killing jobs. Meanwhile let's take a look at how that works. The EPA has a plan in the works to basically tax livestock farmers out of business in order to "fight" global warming.
That is what we can really look forward to.
Here's the pre-op
The president-elect's address never once used the word "spend," relying instead on "invest" or "investments,"
Yesterday, we received another painful reminder of the serious economic challenge our country is facing when we learned that 533,000 jobs were lost in November alone, the single worst month of job loss in over three decades. That puts the total number of jobs lost in this recession at nearly 2 million.
But we need action – and action now. That is why I have asked my economic team to develop an economic recovery plan for both Wall Street and Main Street that will help save or create at least two and a half million jobs, while rebuilding our infrastructure, improving our schools, reducing our dependence on oil, and saving billions of dollars.
We won’t do it the old Washington way. We won’t just throw money at the problem.
Today, I am announcing a few key parts of my plan. First, we will launch a massive effort to make public buildings more energy-efficient. Our government now pays the highest energy bill in the world. We need to change that. We need to upgrade our federal buildings by replacing old heating systems and installing efficient light bulbs.
So now we can look forward to the Obama Economic Recovery Easter Egg Hunt too.
Now how much will making public buildings more energy efficient cost versus how much it will save, say over the next four years? In the real world.
Second, we will create millions of jobs by making the single largest new investment in our national infrastructure since the creation of the federal highway system in the 1950s. We’ll invest your precious tax dollars in new and smarter ways, and we’ll set a simple rule – use it or lose it. If a state doesn’t act quickly to invest in roads and bridges in their communities, they’ll lose the money.

But Obama's goal isn't to help the economy, but to sabotage it further, while spreading lots of pork around to dull the pain. The result will be a bad economy, heavy tax burdens on businesses and a huge whomping Federal government under him.
Third, my economic recovery plan will launch the most sweeping effort to modernize and upgrade school buildings that this country has ever seen. We will repair broken schools, make them energy-efficient, and put new computers in our classrooms. Because to help our children compete in a 21st century economy, we need to send them to 21st century schools.
O for 3. So far none of the three planks of Obama's plan are about economic recovery, but conventional government initiatives bizarrely mislabeled as Economic Recovery plans, in the belief that people who voted for Obama are too stupid to understand the difference anyway.

As we renew our schools and highways, we’ll also renew our information superhighway. It is unacceptable that the United States ranks 15th in the world in broadband adoption. Here, in the country that invented the internet, every child should have the chance to get online, and they’ll get that chance when I’m President – because that’s how we’ll strengthen America’s competitiveness in the world.
In addition to connecting our libraries and schools to the internet, we must also ensure that our hospitals are connected to each other through the internet. That is why the economic recovery plan I’m proposing will help modernize our health care system – and that won’t just save jobs, it will save lives.
Which might be nice... but...not...an... economic... recovery... plan. Say it with me, George.
Maybe if Obama gives a speech on broadband, we can actually hear about his economic recovery plan.
These are a few parts of the economic recovery plan that I will be rolling out in the coming weeks. When Congress reconvenes in January, I look forward to working with them to pass a plan immediately. We need to act with the urgency this moment demands to save or create at least two and a half million jobs so that the nearly two million Americans who’ve lost them know that they have a future.

Thanks for listening.
Go "invest" yourself.
Meanwhile people are being taxed to death, and that is killing jobs. Meanwhile let's take a look at how that works. The EPA has a plan in the works to basically tax livestock farmers out of business in order to "fight" global warming.
Farmers so far are turning their noses up at the notion, which is one of several put forward by the Environmental Protection Agency after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2007 that greenhouse gases emitted by belching and flatulence amounts to air pollution. Now we can expect to see this sort of madness get free reign under Obama's rule with the environmental agenda running things. And that would make the price of meat all but impossible to afford. Meanwhile the government will be spending that "precious" tax money to buy vastly inflated "energy efficent" materials from contractors who contributed to Obama's campaign.
It would require farms or ranches with more than 25 dairy cows, 50 beef cattle or 200 hogs to pay an annual fee of about $175 for each dairy cow, $87.50 per head of beef cattle and $20 for each hog.
The executive vice president of the Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation, Ken Hamilton, estimated the fee would cost owners of a modest-sized cattle ranch $30,000 to $40,000 a year. He said he has talked to a number of livestock owners about the proposals, and "all have said if the fees were carried out, it would bankrupt them."
Sparks said Wednesday he's worried the fee could be extended to chickens and other farm animals and cause more meat to be imported.
"We'll let other countries put food on our tables like they are putting gas in our cars. Other countries don't have the health standards we have," Sparks said.
"It makes perfect sense if you are looking for ways to cut down on meat consumption and recoup environmental losses," said Bruce Friedrich, a spokesman in Washington for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
That is what we can really look forward to.

I tend to zone out whenever Obama gives his weekly Internet addresses. He's not president yet. Sort of arrogant if you ask me. A little etiquette Mr. Obama.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm not mistaken Obama has advocated making it easier for people to get credit cards. Um, not the most wise thing when people are going defaulting on their mortgages and going bankrupt.
What ever happened to layway?? You pay each week on something rather get it instantly with a credit card and outrageous interest rates?
I guess he will spend all our money and leave us more broke than we already are.
ReplyDeleteand government dependent naturally
ReplyDeleteSo, socialism is coming. In regards to healthcare, if all is computerized, and easy access to information...then, using a social security number will allow a peson to universally obtain consistent care. You see how NICE that sounds?
ReplyDeleteThen if the King can address childern eaily through broadband access, he spreads the message even further.
He is going to make the US ppl dependent upon the Govt and truth, freedom and civil liberties be damned.
..."and then a new Pharoh arose, one who didn't know Joseph"...
Don't you think that it's time to be in Isreal (stupid warty leaders and all)? Yep, it's kind of messed up here, but jeez to stay and live under Obama- eek.
I have this image of Obama painting the cupola (dome) on top of the White House gold to match the Dome of the Rock. I really do. That thought came to me while watching the news last night.
ReplyDeleteAnother image--Obama playing either FDR or Daddy Warbucks in a remake of the Broadway musical "Annie". In particular, the finale, in the We've Got a New Deal for Christmas scene.
Not to repost the lyrics but essentially the children cry about not having peppermint sticks and Daddy Warbucks sings about how "Santa's got brand new assistants" and counts off their names as if they were reindeer "on so and so, on this person etc."
Obama cannot possibly make good on all of his promises and I can't help but wonder when the spoiled liberal brats in the media and US in general are going to start complaining, "but, but, you TOLD US! You PROMISED!"
I am still trying to figure out where to expatriot to when he and Paulson drive our economy into the Greatest Depression EVAH. Europe and Asia will recover and we will still be feeding our children rice and beans if anything at all.
ReplyDeleteI love that you wrote President of Kenya...my opinion is "The One - First Indonesian President of The United States" (I can't write his name)
Invest... yeah, that's it! That's the ticket! I can't listen to this guy, much less watch him. Spending into the red by gov't has *never* gotten an economy back on its feet. Free enterprise/market forces do much better.
ReplyDeleteAs if the price of kosher meat wasn't bad enough. The EPA should keep its nose out of natural by-products.
