Like an old car starting up on a cold winter's day, European governments have been slowly waking up to the realization that all those jolly Islamic people might be a problem after all. Unfortunately they don't understand the dimensions of the problem. To them the riots, the bombings and the murders are only part of a culture clash, with challenges no different than any other minority group. That is why they prefer to focus on schools and burqas, while ignoring the violence. The thinking is that this is still a cultural problem that can be corrected with 3 drops of educational indoctrination, and 6 drops of enforced integration for the natives whose discriminatory attitudes are just making things worse. The problem is that their model is wrong.
The Islamic problem is not merely a clash of cultures, but also a clash of civilizations. Had it been merely a clash of cultures, Europe would only be in the same boat as America. Troubled, but not immediately fatal. Instead Europe is facing a clash of civilizations. The cultural and religious dimensions of the conflict underlie a larger perception on the Muslim side, that they are fighting to expand the borders of the Muslim East, rather than trying to be accepted in the Christian West.
As Americans are blinded to the dangers of Islam by their experience with multiculturalism, Europeans are blinded to the dangers of Islam by their inexperience with multiculturalism. Both make the mistake of assuming that Islamic violence is part of the multicultural norm, rather than the resumption of an old invasion of Europe. The chaos and confusion in a multicultural society can make it hard to spot real threats against the background noise, frustrations and raw nerves of cultural friction. It becomes easy to lump in complaints about too many Indian restaurants, with complaints about angry mosque worshipers. And it becomes all too easy for authorities to tell people to just make the best of it, while ignoring the situation. The authorities are certain that eventually a natural balance will arise a generation or two down the road. The slow realization that the native born Muslims are actually more radicalized than their fathers and grandfathers is worrying them, but not in a particularly constructive way. Instead they are torn between England's accommodation policies and France's integration policies, neither of which get at the heart of the problem.
Debates over swimming classes or a radical mosque here and there are only the smaller branches of a fast growing tree. Because the problem is not merely cultural differences, those can be and have been accommodated. The problem is that Muslims believe that their way of life is morally superior, and that any system or institution that does not follow those laws, is invalid. Furthermore they believe that they have a duty to impose their laws on others in the name of their religion or honor. Attempting to accommodate people who believe this, by accepting their laws in whole or in part, leads to an avalanche effect, with each concession generating demands for new concessions. There is no final point of accommodation to be had, except complete submission to Islam, because those being accommodated never recognize the inherent validity of the system that is accommodating them. Not until it becomes their system.
The clashes over food on Ramadan or pork in restaurants or seeing eye dogs in taxicabs are reflections of that attitude. And they are not the worst of those reflections by far. That honor might be reserved for the rapes and murders committed by Muslims who believe that rape is a sin for a woman, not a man, and that murdering infidels is the way to paradise. And while European governments still insist that there is a tremendous gap between a Muslim cab driver refusing a blind passenger or the Muslim rape gangs of Oslo or Sydney-- but they both stem from a common attitude. From the Muslim insistence that their values are so superior and universal that they have a right to enforce them on others. And so a Swedish girl who is dressed normally by her country's standards, is treated by Muslims according to the laws and standards of the Muslim world. Similarly the Muslim cab driver treats blind passengers or customers buying whiskey by the laws and standards of Islam.
One country cannot have two legal systems. On that both Muslims and Europeans generally agree, not counting those like the Archbishop of Canterbury, who are already ready to accept some doses of Sharia law, in exchange for the promise of peace and stability. The question is whose system will prevail? Demographics will eventually answer that question, and between aggressive immigration, high birth rates and the prospect of Turkey in the EU-- the answer does not appear to be favorable to the future of Europe. But before that happens, Islamic Supremacism is already dictating the answer through sheer force and intimidation.
Most minorities will adapt to a host country, one way or another. However a minority that expects to be a majority, that sees itself as the vanguard of a moral, religious and national force reclaiming territory in the hands of immoral infidels for Allah-- is not going to adapt. Instead it will expect the natives to adapt to it. And the willingness of European governments to adapt to them, has only fed that sense of Islamic triumphalism and burnished their expectations for a Caliphate. Tolerance has only fed the Clash of Civilizations. Every finger given, has led to a torn off hand. Negotiations has fed European governments into the same deceptive two track system, in which the first track is manned by false moderates who are all smiles and empty promises, and the second track is manned by open terrorists who want to seize power without compromise. Ironically, the same system, European governments have insisted on feeding Israel into.
A clash of cultures can be resolved peacefully. A clash of civilizations in which both sides are competing for the same physical and political territory will spill over into violence, unless one side checkmates the other. Right now Muslims have become quite good at checkmating Europeans, using oil and the threat of violence as leverage. Which is why Europe finds it easier to reduce the whole thing to a cultural problem that can be worked out, with enough available Hallal meals and tolerance seminars, rather than a war set to pour out rivers of blood on the streets of London, Paris and Oslo.
While Muslim Gulf states help feed the Islamization of Europe, they continue to rely on money, protection and tourism from the West. Islamization is one form of leverage for them, giving them a choke hold on their best customers. And neither America nor Europe have dared to significantly defy them in quite a while. And when Europe crumbles, and Israel is destroyed, America will stand alone. Culturally and politically isolated among an increasingly Muslim and Marxist Third World, and resentful rival superpowers, Russia and China. And then it will have a desperate choice between fighting for itself, or surrendering to the cultural oblivion tugging at it right now.
European countries have a limited time frame in which to act, and a wolf howling at their backs. The longer a problem goes on, the more people acclimate themselves to it. And the less capable they are of taking action to avert it. Demographics is not in Europe's favor. The continued flow of migration from the Muslim world into Europe, will complete the process of irrevocably transforming it, as much as Turkey or Palestine was, by Muslim invaders. Dismissing the birth pangs of Eurabia as merely cultural friction is equivalent to pretending that gangrene is only a sore. This is not merely a cultural problem, it is a civilizational one. Flattering, pandering and tolerance lessons will not make it go away, only feed it till it explodes across all of Europe.
One cannot ignore the inevitable for long, only become numbed to it. That is the cooked lobster effect. Some European countries have developed a little sensitivity to a grave problem, but that is not nearly enough. Respecting Ramadan and dispensing Halal will not resolve it. They only define the latest parameters of European submission to an invading civilization. This is not a war of practices, so much as of assumptions. Europe's Muslims have come to assume that the future belongs to them. Europe's governments assume that everything will work out with a little pandering. Both groups need to be forced to change their assumptions, before it's too late.

Right on target. Very nice post.
ReplyDeleteGeert Wilders is on trial in the Netherlands for trying to make people aware of pretty much the same thing your saying Daniel.
ReplyDeletePeople in this country need to read what he's charged with, they wouldn't believe it. Although there are some (or should I say many) who would probably believe that's a good thing.
Great Post!
"Not us, I hear you say - It couldn't possibly happen here - could it?" All those who think it's only Europe under threat are seriously deluded...!

Old Arab proverb: "If the camel once gets his nose in the tent, his body will soon follow."
Europe may not get Islam, but EU leaders understand it well. The EU leaders are like the European leaders of the past: they believe they are an elite with the right to rule over the masses to the benefit of the elite who have taken on this burden of ruling. Past justifications to create a new, oppressive, feudal-like elite have been Socialism, Nazism, Fascism, and Communism. All failed, though some had to be extirpated by violence, or Europe would still be their domain.
ReplyDeleteIslam fills the need of the elite to justify its rule. They will segue neatly from the peoples' will to the racial will to Allah's will, as long they can justify their privileges. Islam supplies that justification in full measure: only Moslem men are fully human. The subhumans may be treated as animals. Those who are different (e.g. kulaks, infidels) may be raged against and exploited at will.
Europe cannot be saved from itself. Unlike in alcoholism, in socialism, fascism, nazism, islam, communism, each has no floor of degradation that will wake its adherents from their delusion.
Either the EU will be overthrown and a democratic and free Europe will be created, or Europe will be destroyed, its civilization betrayed by the avarice of its self-appointed leaders.
Excellent article.
ReplyDeleteEurabia is on the path to destruction and I will not shed a tear.
I'm afraid that America is going down the same road as Eurabia.
I can't believe that the Jews were so stupid as to choose a Muslim president,
God help us for the last bastion of freedom and democracy is going down the drain.
Yes, the scenary in front of us is scary... heartbreaking, when we wonder what a wretched, what a terrible world we are leaving for our children. Yet we are left with faith, at watching signals here and there indicating that we have some extraordinary warriors fighting for us all, Charles Martel, Jan Sobieski are inspiring heroes like Geert Wilders and many many others less known or still unknown. We have lost our Oriana Fallaci but we have a Sultan Knish, her soul mate, for one .. I think of how happy she would be at reading you, Sultan, our beloved Sultan ...!
ReplyDeleteExcellent, as usual.
ReplyDeleteHopefully people will wake up in time, but right now the process has moved far enough along that those in power are invested in trying to make it all work, and those in power tend to suppress critics who point out that they're headed toward disaster
ReplyDeleteIsrael will not be destroyed, ipso facto.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. And if I may add my two cents to the arguement, my opinion is that no-one is willing to go to the source of the problem with radical conquering Islam, and until they do, they will not likely make any headway against it. And because even when they know where the source of the problem is, they are too terrified to go there. What I mean by that is that virtually everyone sees this as a problem that originates with people, or at least those people's interpretation of Islam as if radical Muslims are misinterpreting Islam to radical ends. Unfortunately, Islam is not being misinterpreted. The radical, violent nature of Islam is codified in their texts. Certainly, it might be expected that a few might be influenced into not embracing the radical aspects of Islam, but any progress along those line would likely be temporary, at best. The only permanent hope for de-radicalizing Islam is to purge the radical conquering passages from their texts, and how likely is that to happen.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that Muslims believe that their way of life is morally superior, and that any system or institution that does not follow those laws, is invalid. Furthermore they believe that they have a duty to impose their laws on others in the name of their religion or honor.
ReplyDeleteI believe that sums up what I believe too. Anyway, I doubt normal people see it that way. MSM tend to be so politically correct, that most articles directly whitewash Islam (Islam is never imposed, Islam forbids to kill every other human being, women are always free to marry or to wear a burqa, etc.). There are exceptions of course, but they are not enough.
We will see how the economic crisis modifies the situation. Or if it modifies it at all.
The problem is not one of a clash of civilizations. It is a clash of beliefs. But Europe is the history of clashes between beliefs, some strong and vital, other weak and without validity. Those beliefs of the weakest foundations struggle against the more vital ones depending the most heavily on the power of authority and depend the least on freedom of expression. Islam is Europe's most compelling problem, just like it is ours. But the Americas and Europe both have an older problem in common in the Catholic church. And this is what Islam is doing in both Europe and the US, it is forcing these powers back into the hands of Catholics. The Catholic church is letting Muslims in and granting them the same license they have leveraged for themselves in largely Protestant countries. And when the Muslims run amok as they are instructed to do in their scriptures, the Catholics pose as the front lines against something they have engineered. The soft headed Protestants whose consciences have been wiped clean of the fear of Catholicism and now function reliably on its behalf are the rank and file soldiers in the quest for "tolerance" for Muslims and blindness towards their violent and bigoted views. Jews also frequently play such a role. Notice they will never play leadership roles. Wilders is a good example. What else could we do except sympathize with Wilders, a Catholic, being dragged before some court on the thinnest of grounds. It is an odious Passion Play. Wilders isn't telling us anything that we shouldn't know already and isn't doing anythig we should have done a long time ago. But the Netherlands have seen similar show trials in the crimes being accused against Serbs in the former Yugoslavia in the courts at the Hague.
ReplyDeleteCharles Martel, in 732, recognized the dangers of Islam and knew how to repsond.
ReplyDeleteThere were many leaders after Martel, but he was the first to inflict a massive defeat on the Islamic hordes. There was such a slaughter that day that the Moslems cried about their losses until they were kicked out of Spain. They are still crying about the loss of Spain.
John II Sobeiski, King of Poland, led an army south to break the seige of Vienna on September 11, 1683. But he knew what the outcome of defeat would be. Again their was a massive slaughter of Moslems.
That is why Osama attacked the US on September 11 or as we usually say 9-11.
The victory at the sea battle at Lepanto in 1571 prevented an Islamic invasion of Spain.
"I cant believe the Jews were so stupid as to choose a muslim president"
ReplyDeleteUmm, how is it the fault of Jews?
Multiculturalism came too early to Europe. It was forced upon us and people were not educated why and when it is good to be tolerant. Clearly the present situation is not one for this kind of tolerance but this still needs to be brought home.
ReplyDeleteThere is a huge uproar in most of Western Europe among the indigeneous populace against Islam. It is not yet reflected in the leadership, but it will be. The problem is , the only answer this future leadership will have is to fight and ban Islam, which will eventually result in bloodshed in Europe.
To.morrow , 7th October , is annivesary of Battle of Lepanto (1571). I just hope the "baddies" have nothing planned......!!!
ReplyDeleteSo very very true! Great article. I live in Europe, Antwerp more precisely and "it" is all around us. "It" has become so visible so blatant that even an idiot can see what is happening. But the high and mighty "not" chosen by direct vote, but "appointed" by their colleagues are comfortably pooh poohing everything away. I can see it, everybody can see it but we are prisoners of our system and people are too divided, thanks to the brainwashing that has been going on, to stand together and do something substantial to change things around. Many are coming forward but one has to watch it lest one is jailed for telling the truth.
ReplyDeleteA commentator on a video I just watched said in connection of an accusation of racism when criticizing Islam: "When has Islam become a race?"
I enjoyed reading this article so much that I took the liberty of translating it into Dutch so that people over here can understand it should there English not be sufficient. The only bit which I could not find an idiom for was "The cooked lobster effect", could you please tell me what effect that is?
Thanks
it means that a way to cook a live lobster is to gradually raise the temperature until it is cooked, without it ever noticing anything is wrong because the water temperature has been climbing slowly without a discernible shift
ReplyDeleteI think Europe does understand Islam because Europe (at least the UK) was at one time a major world power, gobblingt up colonies like mad. Islam is attempting that but in a vastly different way.
ReplyDeleteI think Europe definately gets Islam. Some Europeans probably think they can conquer Islam culturally, civilize them through appeasement.
A different level of conquest but perhaps there is something deep within most Europeans that gives them a sense of superiority and invincibility.
Crazy, I know, but something that's been in the back of my mind.
Europe is well into the process of becoming a "dhemmi" state willing to submit and become slaves to Islam in exchange for their lives. I fear America is traveling the same road.
ReplyDeleteIslam means "submission" and it's goal is to force the entire world into submission to its perversion of Judaism and Christianity.
Mohammed was a fraud and a plagerist. He wanted to be accepted by the Jews but they spurned him. He ripped off whole passages of the Christian Bible and warped and twisted them by adding his own form of trash.
Fear not! In the end they will be crushed under the foot of Jesus Christ the Lord of Lords, the True God and Savior of all mankind, even Muslims!!
the problem is that western liberals cannot accept the basic truth that the real Islam is the Islam of the Salafis and the wahabbis and that moderate forms of Islam are forms of apostasy because they steer away from the dictates of their psychopathic prophet. Islam demands that the word of the prophet is followed to the letter. The hatred of the infidel and the compunction to kill and enslave the kaffur in holy jihad are indeed part of the tenets of true Islam. The first thing islamist apologists in the west do is to turn this upside down because they believe in the moral equality of humanity. and because they cannot understand the compulsion to slaughter, hate despise and murder with impunity they indulge in mea culpas or blame the Jews in Israel, to excuse and minimise the perpetrators whom they describe as a tiny minority of Muslims.
ReplyDeleteTotalitarian ideologies are built on Hatred but Nazism and Stalinism eventually succumbed because they were not religions. But Islam has survived for more than a millennium because it purports the outrageous lie that it is the word of God
david s
lemon, don't you understand that EVERYTHING is the fault of the Jews?
ReplyDeleteTherefore, even though Jews represent such a tiny proportion of those who voted for Obama, they will be scapegoated easily for the big O's election and those millions of Christians, secularites, humanists etc who ALSO voted for Obama get off scot-free for electing this walking antiAmerican.
Doesn't matter who's responsible, if there's even one Jew involved, it's the Jews' fault.
See?
