The Betrayal of the Holocaust

When we talk about the Holocaust, we are talking about the mass murder of millions of Jews.

The dead included my grandparents and countless others, shot, starved, gassed, beaten to death and buried in mass graves. And yet the lessons of the Holocaust in its commemorations rarely have anything to do with Jewish lives.

Millions of dollars have been spent building memorials to the victims of the Holocaust, even as Iran is spending its millions on building another kind of memorial to the Holocaust, in the form of nuclear technology. Ben Rhodes, the Obama crony who helped sell the Iranian Big Lie, sits on the board of the Holocaust Memorial Council. The Washington D.C. museum ignores the murder of Jews in Israel, but is very worked up over the deaths of Muslims in Myanmar, in Egypt and around the world.

Millions more are spent, by some of the same groups that claim an interest in Holocaust education, on bringing Muslim migrants to America and Europe to carry out the promise of an Islamic apocalypse in which, as the Hadith states, "The last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, or the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him."

That is what the Islamic Holocaust looks like. If you want to see it slowly getting underway, visit Paris or Jerusalem.

But the murder of Jews, in Israel or Europe, somehow has nothing to do with the Holocaust.

Virtually every major Jewish organization, even the Orthodox Union, was pressured into signing on to obscenely despicable statements equating Muslim migrants to Holocaust victims.

The Holocaust isn't just an uncomfortable subject for Germans, Russians or Poles. It's a very uncomfortable subject for American Jews. The same liberal Jewish organizations that took a vocal part in the civil rights movement remained deathly silent about the murder of six million Jews.

Why the silence? The same reason they didn't protest the Iran Deal too loudly.

The Obama of the Holocaust was named FDR. His administration was equally anti-Semitic. And chose to ignore the mass murder of Jews until protests by Zionist activists became too loud to ignore.

Saving six million Jews was not a feel good liberal cause. The civil rights movement was.

And it's never about doing the right thing. It's about what looks good. It's what's popular.

The same organizations that stayed silent during the Holocaust then rebranded it as a universalist civil rights program. The real lesson of the Holocaust isn't, "Don't allow Jews to be killed."

It's fight for every leftist cause on the planet... except that outmoded "not killing Jews" one.

The same Jewish organizations that wouldn't dream of missing a Holocaust commemoration broadcast their commitment to the "Two State Solution" almost as loudly as to the Holocaust.

The only lesson they learned is that another Holocaust needs better marketing.

The Final Solution, with its immediate extermination of the Jews, has been replaced by the Two State Solution, an intermediate process in which the land on which Jews can live is partitioned into smaller and smaller pieces.

The Lebensraum of Islam demands ever more breathing room. And fewer breathing Jews. Israel is carved up into smaller indefensible ghettos. And Jews are barred from living outside those ghettos. Those who are are "settlers" who must be evicted for the sake of the peace that Islam always brings.

Even if they're "settling" in Jerusalem.: the oldest Jewish city in history.

But the real lesson of the Holocaust is that if we don't destroy Israel, and bring the migrant synagogue bombers and senior citizen murderers of tomorrow to Europe, we're no better than the Nazis.

Just ask a leftist.

The Holocaust isn't very complicated because murder isn't very complicated. The easy lesson of murder is don't let it happen again.

It is easier to build another memorial than to look into your heart and ask why two generations later, the majority of the American Jewish community was still too cowardly to stand up to a liberal icon in the White House... when the lives of millions of Jews were on the line.

From FDR to Obama, American Jewish leaders had two opportunities to stand up to a liberal icon and save Jewish lives. No amount of memorials can disguise the fact that they learned nothing.

The best memorial to the dead is to stop aiding their murderers.

Every Jewish organization that bowed to FDR and Obama have blood on their hands. Every Jewish organization that trumpets the Two State Solution has blood on its hands. Every Jewish organization that mainstream BDS activists, that criticizes Israel and America for fighting terrorism, that imports Muslim migrants while demanding the expulsion of Jewish "settlers" has blood on its hands.

I don't remember the Holocaust because of a museum. I remember because of my grandparents. I remember because my Jewishness doesn't come from a memorial, it's always been a part of me.

The Holocaust told us a harsh truth about the world and human nature. Its commemorations soften the edges. But we need those harsh truths to know what lies behind the comfortable curtain.

Death is the harshest truth. The next harshest truth is betrayal. And the Jews have most often been betrayed by Jews escaping their Jewishness. Some, like George Soros, did it in the most literal way possible. Others did it by kvelling to an FDR speech while ignoring the ash drifting over Europe. Today, they affirm the Two State Solution, ignore Iran's nuclear program and click on that inspirational speech by Obama, Cory Booker or the political culture hero next in line.

They ignore the Jews being murdered in Israel or in Paris. Dead Jews have nothing to do with their Holocaust. That refusal to listen and understand is how it began. The Jews of Poland didn't pay attention to what was going on in Germany. The Jews of Hungary didn't pay attention to what was going on in Poland. And American Jewish organizations all too often ignored all of them.

The Holocaust doesn't need hundred million dollar museums. To commemorate it, we must pay attention. And we must never let the propaganda of the killers blind us to their crimes.

That's easy to say about the Nazis, it's a lot harder when it comes to the PLO, Iran and Hamas.

It's easy to feel good about disavowing a discredited and fallen ideology. There's no act of courage there. But try disavowing the Two State Solution and the Iran Deal. That's a commemoration.

  1. To add to Daniel's column after having read in a Dutch newspaper that:
...antisemitism in Europe is being accepted as it was before the second WW.....
How often do we Jews, those still living in galuth, for the sake of not wanting to be labeled over sensitive or aggressive, accept from a business relation or a gentile acquaintance, a half in jest half meant remark about how wealthy Jews are, how angry and primitive the G'd of our bible is, how over reacting and insensitive Israel is towards those poor "palestinians" etc.
Way too often we hear these and mumble something or try and ignore the remarks. We should start vouch not to accept even the smallest infringement unanswered as what starts like a pinprick can end in a holocaust.

  4. Growing up in Boston in the 50's and 60's, it was common in the summer to see elderly Jews with the blue numbers tattooed on their arms. And I knew several Jewish kids and their families. The ones I knew were Russian Jews and came over long before the Holocaust. But there was never any doubt about the reality of it when I was a kid.

Nowadays a substantial fraction of Millennials have never heard of the Holocaust nor the camps, and anti-Semitism is rampant among them. Of course, we have just had a black President who himself is virulently anti-Semitic and anti-White and who stuffed his Administration with open anti-Semites. And the New York Times, of all papers, itself long-owned and controlled by Jews, didn't care.

No amount of professed and practiced progressivism will protect a Jew from the anti-Semitic progressive mob. What a country!

  5. My uncle was murdered at Auschwitz in November of 1942. I find it absolutely LUDICROUS that the majority of "Millenials" know NOTHING about the Holocaust!! That is a dumbing down in public schools! No real history is taught, certainly no American history and the U.S. Constitution is not only NOT taught, it's trampled on! Our schools are an ABOMINATION!! Thank you, Daniel for this excellent piece!

  7. Public education in the West has utterly failed, then demonized Jews and Israel. I guess it was purposeful. Being a baby boomer, I remember the films of the death camps, the limp, dead, skeletal bodies, the smoke from the chimneys. I remember watching the trial of Adolph Eichmann. I wondered how a man could stand there and be so arrogant after what he'd done. I was taught that one owned up and took the beating. Maybe it was the coldness of that particular evil I didn't understand. Does anyone? I'd ask my father, a South Pacific WWII vet, why they did that to those people. He never answered, but I could see the grief and rage in his eyes. I didn't want to awaken those feelings. It was dangerous to do so in our house. Those guys never talked about the war until they were elderly and maybe not even then. I'm not even sure about what I'm getting at here. I think the purposeful extermination of six million Jews, not including all of the others the Nazis murdered, is simply incomprehensible to me. I'm not so sure that a somewhat normal human mind can be wrapped around such evil and even come close to grasping it. All I can still feel after all these years is the pain and anger of seeing those images and the inability to grasp the horror. No, I'm not Jewish, just an old, recovering Baptist, heretical cracker, wondering what comes next. I hear whispers on the breeze of "Heil, Hitler" coming from the brown shirts and storm troopers of the left. I'm beginning to feel the ground softly vibrating from their goose steps.

  10. Let us never forget:

[1] During World War II, the Arabs were on the side of the Nazis. There was a pro-Nazi rebellion in Iraq.

[2] Hitler’s original plan for the Jews was expulsion, until the Mufti, the religious leader of the Palestinians, persuaded Hitler to burn the Jews instead.

[3] British Mandatory Palestine was a refuge for Jews fleeing the Holocaust, until pressure from all Muslim nations from Pakistan in the east to Morocco in the west persuaded the British to close that escape route.

[4] The Mufti, the religious leader of the Palestinians, celebrated Adolph Hitler’s 60th birthday by sending 60 Jewish children from Jerusalem to Germany,
where they were killed and their skin used to make lampshades.

[5] In the decades following the Holocaust, Syria was a haven for convicted Nazi war criminals, who were promoted to high-level government jobs in Syria.

[6] In the decades following the Holocaust, many Arab leaders publicly praised Adolph Hitler many times.

[7] Even today, Mein Kampf by Adolph Hitler is a best-selling book in Arab and Muslim countries, where it is prominently displayed in book fairs.

This Is the Number of Innocent People Murdered by Governments.
Let's start with a number: 262 million. That's the number of UNARMED people the late Prof. R. J. Rummel estimated governments murdered in mass killings he termed "democide" during the 20th century. "This democide murdered 6 times more people than died in combat in all the foreign and internal wars of the century," he wrote.

  15. We, The Jewish people have been the worlds scapegoat forever, it will continue as long as we allow it. They do it because we let them. We apologize for who we are. We try to educate them about how good we really are. How moral. How many Nobel Prize winners we produce. How much Israel gives to the world. ( She does & we do). But it doesn’t matter. Israel could come up with the definitive cure for Cancer tomorrow ( impossible BTW) & the world would make something ugly out of it. It’s time for us to stop caring what the world thinks & go about our business doing our Jewish way of life, stand up loud & proud & refuse to be the worlds scapegoat any longer. Israel should defend its border from the rioting hoards with live fire & whatever it takes. They should take Judea & Samaria, any Arab that’s not happy about it can leave. So called East Jerusalem should be formally annexed or whatever, Temple Mount should be taken from the WAQF. Hebron & all Jewish historical places stolen by the so called Palestinians should be reclaimed. And the world should be told that Israel will not go quietly into the night, if attacked she will take the whole Middle East down with her. In 1967 Israel won the 6 day War by being decisive, strong, take no prisoners. For a brief time she was looked at as a heroic nation. Entebbe. Heroic. When you come from strength nobody messes with you. It’s our only hope. We can no longer look at ourselves as the “scapegoat “ we have to be the WARRIOR JEW now. No matter where we live. In Israel or in the diaspora. We diaspora Jews HAVE TO SUPPORT ISRAEL. No petty squabbles, not now.

My Jewish husband's family are all democrats. They describe FDR as being wonderful. I listen in amazement. I've given up pointing out that he was anti-Semitic and was responsible for turning away the St. Louis when 900 Jews tried to come to America in 1939. Roosevelt could have lifted the quota. He knew what was going on. He just didn't care. I never learned about the Holocaust in school. I'm in my 70's and they never taught that back then. They should have. My late mother-in-law used to say America isn't ready for a Jewish President. I wondered what America needed to do to get ready. I am a very conservative republican. When Al Gore and Joe Leiberman were running, I voted for them because I was ready and thought it was about damn time. I also considered voting for Obama, again because I thought it was about damn time, but I didn't because McCain was a war hero who I respected greatly for his sacrafice. I agree with just about everything in your article, which so rarely happens for me. Thank you.

Liberal elites have always thought great causes (e.g. boys peeing in girls' toilets..)unfortunately demand the sacrifice of pawns, leftists think great causes are the best excuse not to care for real people (e.g. let millions starve like Venezuela) and still keep a clean conscience. One day they realized they were soul mates. Now islamists are joining the club. There is no much room left for decency when so many haven't a moral compass.

  26. @MikeN: It’s a riddle wrapped in an enigma.

I think part of it is brainwashing. I remember one woman at a former employer who said she’d vote for Romney, but if it was anyone else she’d stay with the Democrats because of “those” Evangelicals. This despite the fact that most American Evangelicals are, actually, some of the biggest Israel fans around.

But like Evan Sayet said, most Jews are “plopping Jews”; they pantomime actual faith.

@SafeNSharp: They’ve given up worship of Hashem for the Golden Calf of the State.

"For Jewish liberals, that bogeyman is often their own tradition."

    That's a fascinating point.

I am relearning Judaism, having been an atheist for 20+ years. One of the things inherent in Judaism, actual Judaism, is the idea of limits and self-control. THOU SHALT NOT.

Like most Judeo-Christian ethics, Judaism emphasizes restraint and the subjugation of the animal side of human nature. Restraint. Delayed gratification. All crosses to the Left's vampire.

Jewish liberals talk a good game about following G-d's laws yet their actual faith is indulgence of the animal, and rationalizing that indulgence by wrapping it in religious terminology.

  30. Daniel,
As you know, I have enormous respect for you. In this case, I think you are being much too hard on FDR.
It is certainly true that FDR got many, many Jews to vote for him and for the Democrats, and that has had very unfortunate consequences. The reason American Jews became such fans of FDR was that he brought many Jews into his administration despite the fairly widespread anti-Semitism in the United States at that time. Remember Father Coughlin, "Gentlemen's agreement, discrimination against Jews in housing, country clubs, universities, banks, etc. As a politician, FDR was brave to bring so many Jews into prominent positions. I am sure you have heard this Yiddish joke: Far yidn es zenen drei veltn: diese welt, yene welt un Roosevelt.

I know that it has become fashionable to criticize FDR for his indifference to the Holocaust, but I believe that is a mistake. As for his attitude toward the Jews during the war, the best historians believe that FDR's first priority was to defeat Nazi Germany a.s.a.p. Given the nature of the war and the threat from Nazi Germany, that is understandable. Remember, we developed the A-bomb to be used against Germany, not Japan. The byproduct of that goal was to end the Holocaust a.s.a.p. Check these links out: https://www.google.com/search?q=gerhard+weinberg+fdr+holocaust&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b-1
    Keep up your great work!
