The Causal Link Between Getting Gonorrhea and Voting for Hillary Clinton May Be Incidental

In 2016, most of Bell County, TX, voted for Donald Trump. But in the midst of all that vast sea of Republican red, lay the pool of blue voters in the city of Killeen which came out for Hillary Clinton. Killeen is one of the Democrat enclaves that the party hopes will flip places like Bell County and Texas. Beto O’Rourke focused on the city of 127,000 as, more recently, did Michael Bloomberg’s campaign. But Killeen is exceptional not just for its body of Democrats, but because of its diseased bodies. The Democrat city placed 8th on the list of cities with the highest rates of sexually transmitted diseases. Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control show that with 1,644 STD cases per 100,000, 1,630 gonorrhea cases, and 4,190 chlamydia cases, it’s not just support for Hillary Clinton going viral there. The causal link between getting gonorrhea and voting for Hillary Clinton may seem incidental, but it’s what the cities with the worst rates of sexually transmitted diseases i...

Get High, Fix Race Relations in the People's Republic of Evanston

The last thing Evanston, Il needs is more drugs. The Cook County city bordering Chicago has already become notorious for its link to the Windy City’s drug trade with multi-million dollar busts and a former detective indicted last year for allegedly leaving the department for the DEA to work on behalf of the La Organizacion de Narcotraficantes Unidos or the United Drug-Traffickers Organization. Violent crime was up 20% last year. Evanston’s population has declined at twice the rate as Chicago’s. The decline was most pronounced among Evanston’s black population. African-Americans, who made up 22.5% of the population in 2000, fell to 16.9% in 2017. But Evanston’s City Council found a solution. Get high and fix race relations at the same time. Evanston's Equity and Empowerment Commission, whose mission is to "eradicate" inequalities, met to discuss the issue. That body's members, Julie Corbier de Lara, a Chicago pastry chef, Pastor Monte L. G. Dillard, a former tell...

The "You Didn't Do That" Society

First Elliot Rodger murdered his three roommates with a knife, hammer and machete. Then he shot eight people, three of them fatally, and tried to run over several others in his car. After the bodies were taken away, everyone on television agreed that it was the fault of the guns. Rodger had been in therapy since he was eight and was seeing therapists every day in high school. He had a history of making violent threats and the police had already gotten involved. He was on multiple prescription medications and had therapists whom he alerted to his plans by sending them his manifesto. A therapist reacted by notifying his mother who drove out personally. By then even more people were dead. In a country where a little boy with a pop tart chewed in the shape of a gun triggers immediate action, the professionals who cashed in on the killer’s wealthy family were in no hurry to call the police. One even reassured his mother while the shootings were going on that it wasn’t him. So it was...
