Where Is All That White Liberal Anger Coming From?

It's a bit of a paradox, but in politics it's hard not to notice that the angriest people are not small town folk "clinging" to guns and religion or racial minorities in the inner cities, but upper middle class white liberals. These are some of the same people who will often talk about the anger of inner city blacks or Muslims abroad, or the working class people... but rarely if ever do they talk about their own anger. Yet it's their anger, their barely suppressed simmering rage that is driving our political process. From the black ski cap wearing protesters hurling bags of cement at both conventions, the Code Pink women hoping for Cindy Sheehan sized stardom, the upper middle class authors and directors who flirt in fiction with the idea of assassinating Bush to your average DailyKos diarist, the white middle class liberal of both genders is vastly overrepresented when it comes to furious political tantrums. But where then is all that anger coming from? We

Friday Afternoon Roundup - Obama's Meltdown, ACORN, Kenyan, Ayers

ACORN, Obama's real plan for winning the election is coming undone with investigations into ACORN's fraudulent voter registrations being conducted. And this was how ACORN was doing business for Obama . A man at the center of a voter-registration scandal told The Post yesterday he was given cash and cigarettes by aggressive ACORN activists in exchange for registering an astonishing 72 times, in apparent violation of Ohio laws. “Sometimes, they come up and bribe me with a cigarette, or they’ll give me a dollar to sign up,” said Freddie Johnson, 19, who filled out 72 separate voter-registration cards over an 18-month period at the behest of the left-leaning Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. “The ACORN people are everywhere, looking to sign people up. I tell them I am already registered. The girl said, ‘You are?’ I say, ‘Yup,’ and then they say, ‘Can you just sign up again?’ ” he said. Why settle for twice when you can go for 72? But that's no surprise whe

A 13th Century View of Jewish Life Under Islam

Liberals who seek to rewrite Jewish history and Anti-Zionists of various flavors have one key myth, that Jews were well treated in the Arab world and that it was only the creation of Israel that spoiled this harmonious time. In fact Jews living in Arab lands, like Jews living in Christian lands; were at times found useful and other times mercilessly and brutally persecuted. So much so that Ibn Ezra saw Mohammed as the 'little horn' of Daniel. One of the piyutim in the recent selichos, Samach Daled, is a flash of reality, particularly to any religious Jews who insist on the mythology of an Arab utopia in which Jews happily dwelt. And it is in some ways shockingly current though it dates back to the 13th century. A few selections follow... "How can I come to you when those who serve other things will not permit me to serve you They seek to divide me from you But I have not forsaken your trust How have I been exiled and go and wander through every road and district And those

Therefore Choose Life

Yom Kippur begins today. It is one of the holiest days of the Jewish calendar. Standing today in line at the post office a Hispanic lady suggested that since it was the biggest Jewish holiday there would be a lot of presents. There are no presents however, but the one we can give ourselves because on Yom Kippur we can choose life. In Parshas Nitzavim a few weeks ago, God offers us a choice between life and death. A choice only we can make. It is a choice that individuals make and it is a choice that nations and civilizations make as well. Such an idea might have been academic a few decades ago but today it is very real. We stand on the brink of life and death and only we can choose to live by choosing the path of life. The idea that someone, let alone that entire nations would choose the path of death seems bizarre, yet that is exactly what we see in the world around us, from Muslims who urge their children to grow up and die as suicide bombers to the effete elites who egg them on and

The 2008 Election: The Defining Line for American Jews

The 2008 Presidential election is more than just a defining line for America, it's a defining line for American Jews. In the same way that for Americans in general the 2008 Presidential election at the committed activist level serves to winnow out those who understand what America is and what it is meant to be from those who despise what America is and seek to destroy it-- the election winnows out those Jews who have a Jewish identity from those who have a liberal identity wrapped in foil thin Star of David gift wrap. The assimilationist agenda of liberal American Jewry has metastasized with each succeeding generation to produce two Jewish Americas, one of committed religious Jews and one that has reduced Jewishness to an ethnic joke in the service of a liberal creed. A river now flows between us and many of those on the other side of the river are not even Jewish in the ethnic sense and few are religious in any sense. Their belief system is liberalism, their synagogue is the

Liberalism's Death Narrative for Western Civilization

There are no easy answers to suicide, to understanding why someone chooses to take his own life. It is even more difficult to understand mass suicide, or the collective action of entire societies and civilizations marching like lemmings off the cliff and leaping down to shatter on the rocks of barbarism below. Yet there may be one element at the heart of the problem, liberalism. For decades the academic, religious and political elites of Israel, Europe and America have done their best to convince the citizens of their countries that they are the problem, that their greed, their warmongering and their very lives are a boot on the back of the oppressed peoples of the third world. Environmentalism was the final nail in the coffin as the leftist ideologies now proclaimed that not only was our very existence oppressing the third world, but even the planet itself. Everything we do from buying a new telephone to driving to work to opening up a can of soda is a scar on the earth, a death

You Too Can Be a Victim!

The first step to turning a normal person into a victim is to convince them that they really are a victim. It's the first thing abusers and liberals do. Are you unhappy with your life? Liberal ideology will be happy to tell you who's to blame. Are you a member of a minority ethnic group, are you a woman, gay, employed by a big corporation, non-union, rural, urban, overweight, an immigrant, unemployed? Whatever the details, a grievance is waiting for you to filled and be filled by. You too can be a victim. That is the beauty of liberalism. You're either a victim or an oppressor with a sense of entitlement. You can either discover your inner victim or take the blame for everything that's wrong in the world. With a choice like that, is it any wonder that the victim business is booming as never before? You too can be a victim has replaced the old American dream of success through hard work. The new dream is a good lawyer and a job that can't be taken away from you

Attempts to Whitewash the Palin Rally Disinvite Backfire

The JTA is trying to trot out a new wrinkle in the Palin rally disinvite as a result of pressure and threats from Democrats and liberal groups. Except their new wrinkle leads to some of the bully boys for Obama working behind the scene. A former top IRS official warned Jewish groups that they would likely face a financial penalty and expensive audit process if they went through with plans to have the Republican vice-presidential candidate speak at an anti-Iran rally. The warning came from Marcus Owens, a 25-year veteran of the Internal Revenue Service and the former director of its tax-exempt unit. According to the general counsel of the UJA-Federation of New York, it echoed the advice of several other lawyers. Zimmerman’s version of events, confirmed by Owens, would appear to poke a major hole in the claim by right-wing critics that organizers of the rally were motivated primarily by partisan politics in deciding to disinvite Palin and other American elected officials. The problem wi

Is Palin Ready to be President?

Some conservative columnists and bloggers have been taking shots at Palin and while I'm not Palin's biggest fan by any means but calling a spade a spade, the Palin question is a media manufactured smear along the same lines as claiming that McCain hates Spain. Let's get it straight, nothing Palin has said is in a league with any of Biden's whoppers. Pointing out that your state borders the second largest world power resulting in trade relations and border issues is perfectly reasonable, except when the media turns it into an unfriendly soundbite to ridicule in order to fit the narrative that she is unqualified, a narrative that they coined hours after McCain picked her. The same media that found this so absurd have never questioned Obama's claims of foreign policy qualifications based on A. Having traveled as a child to Indonesia B. Making a highly publicized tour of Europe and the Middle East complete with a pointless speech to a German crowd drawn by free

Rosh Hashana Hiatus Roundup

With Rosh Hashana, the new year, beginning tonight Monday evening, the blog will go on hiatus until the end of Rosh Hashana on Wednesday evening. As this update runs Congress is debating the final plank for the gangplank of corporate socialism, bringing America one step closer to the EU way of doing things. The economic crisis we are facing is a manufactured crisis, anyone who doubts that need only look at the connections between George Soros, Countrywide, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch and Bank of America. It's a manufactured crisis with a solution that will not only damage our economy but free enterprise, which is the real target here. Whatever happens in the election we will be worse off if this bill passes and our future as a free nation will be worse off. (Update, the bill has failed) In Israel, Olmert, Livni and the Shabak goon squad are beginning the usual noises about right wing extremism. Which naturally is a preface to a crackdown on the opposition before announcing the s

An Election of Masculine Virtues

Elections are often culture wars as much as they are political campaigns, but the 2008 Presidential election is certainly more of a culture war than anything else, with the left putting forward a completely unqualified candidate whose entire pitch is built around his personality and biography, rather than any actual accomplishments. But it is a culture war now also centered around the definition of masculinity. The counterculture for some time has championed a definition of masculinity that uproots the old heroic paradigms, what they produced was generations of selfish, lazy, inept, irresponsible males dedicated to no higher virtues than Carpe Diem and Questioning Authority, which in turn produced broken homes, illegitimate children, swollen welfare rolls and a new kind of culture war. There are few clearer places to see the erosion of masculinity than Hollywood with its focus on putting forward the manchild as the new action star, ushering in the likes of DiCaprio and Matt Damon i

America's Culture of Debt

With the Wall Street Crisis being declared a financial apocalypse, blame is being hurled at Wall Street Companies and at the Federal government, and while they both deserve the blame, the deeper reality is that the blame also lies with the general public. Wall Street could not have banked so much on a culture of debt, if debt had also not become part of the American landscape. Americans once used to be known as thrifty people and American banks only flourished in the first place because Americans worked hard and saved money. Debt was something shameful and people took on loans for serious ventures that would repay themselves. Today much of that has vanished. Instead we live in a culture of debt, a system in which just about everyone has a credit card or several, in which people routinely buy cars, homes and even appliances they cannot afford to pay for. That is the real ticking time bomb at the heart of our economy. We have gone from an economy based around creating value, to a

Which Way Will the Jewish Vote Go?

Let's begin with the fact that there really is no such thing as a Jewish vote. The idea of a "Jewish Vote" is a relic of late 19th and early 20th century Democratic machine party politics in which wards and urban political machines took control of entire ethnic communities and drummed up the Irish Vote, the Italian Vote and the Jewish Vote. While Democratic machine politics is alive and well, it has mostly moved on to the Black Vote or less reliably the Latino Vote, newer immigrants and economically depressed groups with a sense of victimization that can more reliably be controlled. That's not to say that the reliable well oiled machine is not a factor in the Jewish vote. It certainly helps insure that millions of Jews and Non-Jews remain registered Democrats in cities such as New York where you're either a registered Democrat or you might as well stay home during the primaries, and often on election day too. But the idea of a Jewish vote is mostly a collectiv
