I AM NOT TRAYVON MARTIN The latest liberal idiocy involves while college kids apologizing for their "white privilege" by declaring "I am not Trayvon Martin". Of course they're more likely to get assaulted going through a black neighborhood, than the Trayvon Martins are going through a white neighborhood, but facts like that stopped mattering years ago. So let me take my own shot at it. I am not Trayvon Martin. Not just because if confronted by a local Latino homeowner, I'm not likely to pick up a fight with him and beat him until he shoots me. I am also not Trayvon Martin because if I were shot and killed by any person, regardless of race, color or creed, you would never hear Obama talking about it because I look nothing like his son. Lacking the Black Privilege that turns a death into an opportunity for race baiting, I would just be another statistic. There would be no rallies for me and no t-shirts with my name on it. No one would be talking a...

The Shawarma Republics are Burning
Syria is burning, not because of the Arab Spring or Tyranny or Twitter, or any of the other popular explanations. The fire in Syria is the same firestorm burning in Iraq, in Turkey, in Lebanon and throughout much of the Muslim world. It has nothing to do with human rights or democracy. There is no revolution here. Only the eternal civil war. Most people accept countries with ancient names like Egypt, Jordan and Syria as a given. If they think about it at all they assume that they were always around, or were restored after the fall of the Ottoman Empire. But actually the countries of the Middle East are mostly artificial creations borrowing a history that is not their own. When Mohammed unleashed a fanatical round of conquests and crusades, he began by wrecking the cultures and religions of his native region. And his followers went on to do the same throughout the region and across the world. Entire peoples lost their history, their past, their religion and their w...

Fear of a Racist Country
For the last 150 years this country has been on a long strange trip and the one and only thing that we know about it anymore is that it's racist. Racism has become an indisputable fact of the universe. When everything else is in doubt, racism isn't. It can't be. It's become the anti-weather, the thing we discuss because everyone knows that it exists and everyone knows that everyone is racist. America is racist. Just look at Segregation, the Trail of Tears and whatever happened last week that is already being analyzed on Salon, broken down at Atlantic Wire, trending on Twitter, spun on Think Progress and then chewed and digested by the slower eaters on CNN, MSNBC and the surviving outposts of the print media. Everyone and everything is racist. When the racism microscope is turned on or a racism signal is beamed to the giant orbiting racism satellite launched last week by that fortress of white extraterrestrial privilege, NASA, or a special racism submersible is dro...

The American Deep State
Few myths are as beloved among liberals as the idea that wars could be put down to a conspiracy of defense contractors. Throw together Haliburton, Northrop Grumman and GE along with some retired generals and you have the makings of your next war. The fabled military-industrial complex was a dimwitted descendant of the WW1 era Socialist notion that wars were the product of industrialists and without them, the working peoples of every country would naturally get along. Then came WW2, which was fought between a Communist empire, a National Socialist oligarchy, a Socialist American government and a Britain that would kick out Churchill as soon as the war was over and swap him out for Labour and the Socialist dream. None of these Socialist or aspiring Socialist systems could get along. The Nazis and Commies had started out by looting their own citizens, the Nazis based on religion and ethnicity, and the Commies, based on these things and a thousand others, and the mere existence...

Looking for Racism in America
If you live in Chicago, New York or Los Angeles, you know that it's only a matter of time until an incident between a law enforcement officer, or more rarely a civilian defending himself, and a member of a minority group flares up into citywide grievance theater complete with angry reverends on the steps of City Hall, women with stony faces holding up banners calling for justice and a media driven debate about police tactics and racism. This sort of thing happens with depressing regularity in cities where even the most liberal residents have to choose between police overreach and being murdered. It never leads to meaningful debate or a resolution, instead it peters out with the best actors in the grievance theater picking up money and influence, the media selling a few more papers or ads for allergy relief on the drive time news and everything going back to the way it was. The grievance theater is never really about the specific case, the specific shooting, it...

Friday Afternoon Roundup - Onwards
TRIAL AND ERROR Think of the Zimmerman trial from the perspective of a bunch of lowly state officials. D.C. made it clear that they wanted Zimmerman's head on a plate and that is what the prosecution in the case has done its best to deliver. They have done it clumsily and unprofessionally because the case would never have been pursued by professionals. And while the people pursuing it now may be the same ones who would have done it then, they're doing it for political motives. They're not there to do their jobs, but to look good to Barack Obama, Nancy Grace and the legion of angry influential people who want a conviction. They may get their conviction, even if they do it in ways that will make an appeal all too easy. But that's not their problem. The headlines will read, "George Zimmerman Found Guilty". If the verdict is eventually tossed into the trash, that will just "prove" that the American justice system is racist and needs more clea...

Post-Racial and Racially Obsessed
The Romans had their arenas, Elizabethan England had bear baiting and Obama's America has the trial. HLN has already shot past CNN with wall-to-wall coverage of the latest trial whose defendant is indistinguishable from a celebrity and whose coverage is barely distinguishable from that of the movie premiere. But in between the usual criminal cases whose defendants seem like failed aspirants for the Big Brother house or Survivor, reality TV stars who found fame with a butcher knife, are the politically edifying cases. The ones that aren't just meant to humiliate and degrade the participants and the viewers, but to indoctrinate them as well. It is into this category that the Zimmerman trial falls. It's an involuntary case based on insufficient evidence whose course was compelled by government intervention. And like the tribunals of the French Revolution or the Moscow Trials; it's there to teach us something. And the thing it's there to teach us is racism hysteria...
