We begin with a long look back, a few excerpts from a man who saw the crisis of his time as well as he saw the crisis of our own. A few excerpts will follow...
This is no time for ceremony. The questing before the House is one of awful moment to this country. For my own part, I consider it as nothing less than a question of freedom or slavery; and in proportion to the magnitude of the subject ought to be the freedom of the debate. It is only in this way that we can hope to arrive at truth, and fulfill the great responsibility which we hold to God and our country. Should I keep back my opinions at such a time, through fear of giving offense, I should consider myself as guilty of treason towards my country, and of an act of disloyalty toward the Majesty of Heaven, which I revere above all earthly kings.
Mr. President, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty?
Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power. The millions of people, in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us.
The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Besides, sir, we have no election. If we were base enough to desire it, it is now too late to retire from the contest. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged!"
They are indeed forged and there is no retreat but into submission and slavery. We are not weak, we have simply been divided, disunity has been fostered from without by the left and from within by egotists, by the petty and the careerist and the politically correct. Transcending all that will be crucial to the question of whether we can take back the country.
Meanwhile to Europeans and Israelis who read this blog and are getting tired of the American political coverage, I overall aim for a balance of American, Israeli and general Islamic Terrorism coverage. The current crisis in the United States has shifted things, but during this week I will attempt to return things to normal. I will however point out that Obama's election is an issue that will impact not only the US.
Obama is already backing out of Eastern European missile defense, giving Vlad the KGB Impaler an early birthday present and the shaft to Poland. Not that anyone should have expected anything else from a man who won't be able to recite the oath "Against all enemies foreign and domestic" with a straight face.
Meanwhile the media is busy confessing what everyone already knows, that they were in the tank for Obama. But there are encouraging signs to this.
There is the interview with two Newsweek reporters finally realizing or admitting that Obama's campaign is manipulative and creepy.
It's not a shocker to anyone who voted for McCain, but it does show that there were people who were pushing Obama while repressing or avoiding dealing with the hollowness of his manipulative campaign. And now they have to wonder if they did the right thing and what the butcher's bill will be. And of course the best penance they can perform is to hold him accountable and end the double standard that has made a mockery of journalism.
On the other side of course there is Chris Matthews as the prototype of the sort of talking head propagandist who will keep cheering on the fuhrer no matter what.
So that's what we come down to. Meanwhile any journalists who wake up and begin questioning their Beloved Leader will suddenly discover that their access is gone, and that Rahm will be on the phone to their editors. This will not be the Clinton or the Bush years, there will be positive coverage... or else.
And look for Obama to begin sidelining reporters in favor of left wing bloggers and supportive talk show hosts.
And they'll have a lot of questions to ask because the economy isn't taking the Beloved Leader's election well.

Now if you look at this chart overall the stock market likes new blood, but is less comfortable when reelecting an incumbent. Obama should have reassured the market, instead his victory has pushed it down.
Meanwhile Newt Gingrich may be set to make a comeback as RNC Chairman, which is good news. Gingrich led the way in taking on the Clintons and he has the knowledge and experience to bring the different levels of the party together.
Meanwhile despite refusing to pay his own canvassers, the Obama fundraising machine refuses to stop
The Obama team has created the Obama-Biden Transition Project, a non-profit corporation set up under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Service code, to help supplement the $6.3 million he will receive in taxpayer funds.
Politico reported that neither the Obama campaign nor a source close to the situation would say whether the non-profit would disclose information on its donors before Obama takes the oath of office.
Oh and you can bet that lots and lots of that money will be slipped quietly elsewhere by our new Kenyan dictator. Perhaps into foreign bank accounts.
Mad Medics has a great updated Wizard of Id parody
All American Blogger meanwhile has more on Rahm Emanuel
Freddie Mac was accused of illegally using corporate resources between 2000 and 2003 for 85 fundraisers that collected about $1.7 million for federal candidates. Much of the fundraising benefited members of the House Financial Services Committee, a panel whose decisions can affect Freddie Mac.
The fundraisers were organized by then-Freddie Mac lobbyists Robert Mitchell Delk and Clark Camper, who described them to the corporation’s board of directors as “political risk management,” the FEC said.
And Exposing Liberal Lies conducts another roundup on Rahm Emanuel, Obama's new ethically challenged chief of staff
Chebama has word on the despicable David Remnick who has turned the New Yorker into a hate organ for the left, lionizing Ayers.
Road Sassy meanwhile predicts updgraded Obama supporter activity online aimed at his critics. I've certainly seen a major uptick in trolling by Obama supporters on Sultan Knish.
Meanwhile the left in the Israeli election is getting predictably nasty with lots of rantings about "right wing extremists" which by no coincidence ties in to that Yigal Amir TV interview that was supposed to be impossible, but naturally was leaked just enough for him to name critics of Rabin's appeasement policies as being at fault for his act.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak spoke at the memorial ceremony for slain Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin on Saturday night and warned that “extremists” were plotting another assassination. “We once called them 'stray weeds'--now they're nothing less than cancerous growths,” he said. “Yitzchak,” he addressed Rabin, “we promise you that we will remove this evil from our midst.”
Of course the annual Rabin memorialization has been nothing more than a political campaign for more terrorist appeasement, something this government has been expert at, and demonizing the opposition. But it's worth nothing that Zionists who were to describe the left as cancerous growths would be facing trial for incitement.
Meanwhile JihadWatch updates the UK's Jihadist problem, which naturally is only growing.
Thousands of Islamist militants in the UK are actively supporting jihadist activities at home and abroad, according to a leaked Government document.
The secret report states that Britain will remain "a high-priority target" for international terrorists aligned with al Qaida for the foreseeable future.
And it warns that a network of extremist cells exists in the UK, with the main concentrations in London, Birmingham and Luton.
Just wait till one of them makes it to PM.
