Weimar America

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to cheer on Communists and Nazis punching each other in major American cities while civil society disintegrates around them.

In Dallas, a black nationalist activist shot and killed 5 police officers at a Black Lives Matter anti-police rally. Instead of condemning BLM, Barack Obama defended a racist hate group whose role model is Assata Shakur, a wanted black nationalist cop killer, at the funerals of the murdered officers.

The left killed civil rights and replaced it with black nationalism. The racial supremacism of black nationalism that killed those officers is everywhere. Ta-Nehisi Coates and Ibram X. Kendi are lionized as brilliant thinkers instead of hateful racists, Amazon has ordered a black nationalist secessionist fantasy from Aaron McGruder and Showtime aired ‘Guerilla,’ a miniseries glamorizing Black Panther terrorism.

But racism is a two-way street. So is violence. Extremists feed into each other.

You can’t legitimize one form of racism without legitimizing all of them. The media may advance this hypocritical position. Obama used the shameful “reverse racism” euphemism that distinguishes between black and white racism. But propaganda and spin don’t change the physics of human nature.

Either all racism is bad. Or all racism is acceptable.

Charlottesville is what happens when you normalize racism and street violence. Every normalization of extremism equally normalizes the extremism of the opposite side.

A civil society depends on a consensus. ‘Racism is bad’ is an example of such a consensus. If you normalize black nationalism, you will get more white nationalism. If you normalize leftist street violence against Trump supporters, you will also get more street violence against leftists.

Extremists want to eliminate the consensus of civil society. They want to destroy the idea that there’s any solution except violence through confrontations that show the helplessness of civil society.

That’s true of black nationalists and white nationalists, of Communists and Nazis, of Antifa and Vanguard, of the tankies and hipster Nazis of the Alt-Left and the Alt-Right. They’re a set of evil twins and when you unleash one, you unleash the other. Their real enemies aren’t each other, but everyone in the middle. The bourgeois normies who don’t want to replace society with their totalitarian nightmare.

Street violence raises the bar so that only the violent will participate in protests. If you “no platform” campus speakers, then the only speakers you get will be those willing to face bomb threats, arson, and physical assaults. If you fire people for their views, political activism becomes the province of anonymous trolls and unemployed street thugs. Extremism limits political discourse to extremists.

If Democrats really want to stop the rise of Neo-Nazi violence, there’s a very easy way. Stop normalizing black nationalism and the Alt-Left. End the racist witch hunts for white privilege. Make it clear that street violence is unacceptable and that racism is bad no matter who it comes from. Allow people you disagree with to express their views without trying to destroy their lives.

But that’s the opposite of what the Dems will do. They don’t want fewer Neo-Nazis; they want more of them. They don’t want fewer attacks like Charlottesville and Charleston. They want more of them.

The Dems have become an extremist party run by the radical left. Obama, Holder, and Lynch made common cause with black nationalist hate groups against civil society. It began when Obama defended the vile racism of Jeremiah Wright and concluded with DOJ organized race riots. DNC boss Tom Perez addresses La Raza and his deputy Keith Ellison is a veteran of the Nation of Islam.

The radical left wants to see Neo-Nazis gain prominence on the right to polarize the country. It wants to see our values and norms drowned in violence so that it has an excuse to eliminate free speech. It seeks to eliminate democracy by making the other side appear nightmarishly dangerous. It plots to impose a totalitarian system on the United States by empowering extremists to destroy the current system.

And their opposite numbers waving swastika flags want the same thing. The difference is that they don’t control the Republican Party the way that the Alt-Left and black nationalists control the Democrats.

Charlottesville is what happens when civil society fails. And those who set the terms of permissive discourse, who control the media, academia and social norms, are responsible for the failure.

Conservatives don’t have that kind of power. It’s the left that does.

Liberals, if there are any left on the left, can shut down racism and extremism. Or they can continue normalizing it until it’s mainstream and meaningless.

If you want to understand how we got to Charlottesville, the events at Evergreen State on the other side of the country are as good a place as any to start.

Evergreen’s President Bridges, the progressive who had called for safe spaces and allowed intersectional left-wing racists to terrorize his campus over their demands for racial segregation, was asked in an interview about accusations that he is a white supremacist.

Bridges replied that he doesn’t believe that he is a white supremacist. And then added, “It depends on what you mean by white supremacist.” He concedes, “I am a white person in a position of privilege.”

White privilege is how the intersectional left defines white supremacy. Any white people who aren’t allying with them to destroy Western civilization are defined as white supremacists. And even those who do, like Bridges, can always be accused of white supremacy for not destroying it hard enough.

When you spend enough time accusing everyone who doesn’t share your politics or even your race of racism, you make the term meaningless.

That’s what the left did over eight years of Obama. By the time the election rolled around, Hillary was defining all Trump voters as racists and sexists.

When you spend enough time crying wolf, eventually a real wolf appears. A real wolf showed up in Charlottesville.

The left spent eight years dismantling any meaningful definition of racism for political reasons. The practical effect of their actions was to eliminate social sanctions for actual racists.

And the real racists were happy to take advantage of the new climate.

When the left insists that everyone with white skin is part of white supremacy, that Shakespeare, Beethoven and all of Western civilization embody white supremacy, it’s echoing the actual talking points of white supremacy.

If you tell all Obama critics and Trump supporters that they’re racists often enough, some will decide that maybe they are racists.

If you tell a student who objects to racially segregated areas on campus that she is a white supremacist, she will be more likely to become one.

When you marginalize everyone to the right of you, some of the marginalized will accept the definition.

And when that happens, the left wins, the extremists win, and it becomes harder to maintain any kind of functioning civil society in which we settle conflicts through compromises rather than street violence.

Compromises are uncomfortable.

After the Civil War, the Union was preserved, but Southerners were allowed to honor their cause. It was an uncomfortable compromise, but it helped limit the violence from a conflict that had claimed the lives of 2% of the population. The Taliban campaign by black nationalists to tear down Confederate memorials was a deliberate effort at shattering a compromise that kept civil society working.

And that too led to Charlottesville.

Uncomfortable compromises are how we learn to live with each other. It means that there can be memorials of Robert E. Lee and streets named after Malcolm X. Tolerating people whose views we don’t like is one of the best ways to marginalize domestic extremists. When one set of extremists is empowered to wipe out the other, we end up with a civil war. Just ask Edmund Ruffin and John Brown.

Democrats claim a mandate from the “Right Side of History” to eliminate all the compromises. Catholic nuns must pay for abortions and birth control, Christian bakers and florists must participate in gay weddings, every white person must confess their racism, and every left-wing extremist must get their way.

That’s how you tear a society apart.

The Bill of Rights is an uncomfortable compromise. It says that we have to put up with people we don’t like. The Democrats, under the influence of the left, are rejecting that idea. But that goes both ways too.

You can have a liberal society or an illiberal one. But you can’t have a society that is selectively liberal when it comes to your bigotry, but illiberal of the bigotry of others, that believes you have the right to say anything you please without consequences, but that no one else does, that you can punch, but not be punched. That’s a totalitarian state. And the only way to realize it is through violence.

Democrats need to take an honest look at the street violence in Seattle, in Portland, in Berkeley and Charlottesville, and decide if this is what they really want. If they don’t, it’s time for them to stop normalizing left-wing extremism. If they do, then they are to blame for the next Dallas or Charlottesville.

All of our founding documents were compromises. The bevy of court cases that make up case law are compromises. Federal and state laws are compromises. Being an indifual in a society worthy of survival is a compromise. Fighting and running over one another with cars isn't . Terrorism isn't. Naziism isn't. Civil war isn't. We are making choices that will not end well. America can only be defeated from the inside.....and we have a good start.

Don't underestimate the power of Projection. The Extremists require this perverse Ying and Yang to rationalize their hyper emotion driven desire to destroy things. They need an equal and opposite enemy to justify their irrational rage. If they don't have one at hand, they will create one. That is how Trump transmogrified from an amiable NY billionaire with a TV show and beauty pageants to "literally Hitler". How many people are willing to burn down buildings and beat people to death to protest a reality TV character? So they project that their target is as loathsome or even more so (in order to justify mobs) than they are so they can claim a Just War.

Extremists are profoundly good at living in fantasy worlds, where their train set in the basement is Heaven - they control absolutely everything in this world and this world models exactly how they expect things to be and yet while reality doesn't matter, they invent whole new fantasies of plunder and oppression supposedly out in the "real world" caused by others because they assume that everyone is just as tyrannical, self-absorbed and oppressive as them.

Weimar is a very good analogy, impressive that you came up with that.

Got me started looking into similarities between Antifas and the SA. Seems to me now that there needs to be some compensation needed to keep a large number of such rioters and violent street thugs in the field. Conditions in Germany were so desperate that giving them free soup, lodging, uniforms, and a license to steal may have been enough to keep large numbers of SA men employed. Department of Justice should look into how the Antifas men and women are paid and supported.

Up until President Nixon's played his Southern strategy where he captured the South's vote the KKK was originally the domestic terrorist arm of the Democratic party. Well now it seems to be solidly entrenched in the GOP thanks to President Trump and the Alt-Right. I don't need to get into the numerous incidences where the president led the most divisive campaigns in political history with his daily rhetoric toward violence and wink and nod denials. More recently he had no problem continuing advocating violence with his speech to the police. He has no qualms about attacking people who oppose him but has a problem identifying White Supremacy, Anti-Semitist, KKK and Neo-Nazi's because it is his base and they glommed on to Trump specifically because of his immigration policies. If you don't believe this hatred is his base simply go to Breitbart or American Thinker both of which were reliable conservative sites not long ago and read the articles and comments referring to Charlottesville as "The shot heard around the world." For further proof you can read David Duke who acknowledges these "CULT 45" fanatics are the people who got him elected.Lastly simply look down the hall from the Oval Office and you will find the office of Steve Bannon who once led Breitbart and claims the Alt-Right as his own.

But he gave a speech that disavows hatred you say. As with many others I found his original speech was a vague condemnation along with his both sides do it rhetoric which sounded "Obamaian". After waiting for two days he came out with a second rebuttal which you can judge the seriousness of by him starting with listing his supposed job and economic accomplishments. After his divisive campaign I had to control spitting my coffee all over the computer when he had the hypocrisy to say "Those who spread violence in the name of bigotry strike at the core of America." The Nazi web site "Daily Stormer" plays down the disavow statements chalking it up to a political move Trump was forced into but doesn't really mean.

Conservatives, the GOP, and everyone else should be quick to constantly condemn these demonstrators and any group associated with them for the evil they represent. This rally was billed as "Unite the Right" but there is nothing Conservative nor patriotic about these demonstrators and attempting to use the argument of moral equivalency or referring to this as a "Civil War" is asinine. First off as brazen as they were for not wearing mask protesters don't come to rallies wearing body armor and helmets unless you intend to cause trouble. Second it was obvious their violent intentions had nothing to do with a statue but was based on race and ethnicity which is NOT Conservative. This is closer to the BLM, Black Panthers or the Taliban agenda. Lastly the bravado talk of this being a Civil War. First from the comments and articles I've been reading this Civil War will end up much like the French Revolution where the losers will pay dearly. Next you have to realize this isn't the 18th century where you can shoot at the enemy and hide in the woods. There are more law enforcement and military officials than George Washington ever encountered and they are much better equipped with weapons and communications. You will be identified and apprehended within 12 hours. They then will tear apart your house and go through your computer for anything they can hold against you. Finally you won't be called a patriot by anyone but instead a domestic terrorist like Timothy McVey. You then either rot in jail or become a dead forgotten footnote in the history of terrorism in America. It may get your blood running warm by copying Thomas Jefferson's quote "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants" but you are naïve to believe your revolution has anything but a short tenure. It is doomed to failure !

  7. A fellow named Mike Bolton wrote this, about Charlottesville, here in quotes:
"They were not the only racists there that day and you people know this..thats. why y'all mad at me...its a simple fact of ones right to free speech..and they were denied that...THATS THE PROBLEM NOTHING ELSE."
I say: Sorry sports fans, but he's right. Racist or not, asshole or not, and I do not know the guy, he is correct. He's right.
You see, when mayors and governors pull this shit with the police, contrary to a court order, it does society more harm than good. Indeed, it energizes these neo-nazi, kkk types and groups. It makes them stronger and more determined.
And it validates their view that they have no voice, that there is a conspiracy against them, that they have less rights than other Americans. And guess what? The truth in that is why they are out there demonstrating, having had to go to court to exercise that right. And then having that right not enforced by the police under orders from the mayor and governor.
Free speech means free speech for those with whom I disagree and for those that hate me and for those that make me sick to my stomach. Likewise for the right of assembly. We all know that the libs do not value free speech, just like the muslims.
Freedom of speech is the oil that greases the wheels of a free society. The alternative is the sinking Europe we see today. Like the muslims, the Demturds do not believe in the principle of free speech, undermine it and attack it.
I'll add that this plays into the goals of the hard left, of the libtards, of the Demturds: Divisiveness. Violence. The left knows it needs the white supremacists to further its own rotten, fascist, hateful objectives.

Great comparison to the melt down of post WWI Germany.

My opinion is that if you go far enough to the left and far enough to the right, you end up at the same spot. Centralized massive government, run by tyrants, loss of freedom. The mechanism is run by one party for benefit of the party elite. Everyone else pays the bills and disappears if they complain. Also, both the Nazi and Communist party were notorious for purges. The moral of the story is, today's darling leader of the far left will run a high risk of being tomorrow's outed closet reactionary and suffer the consequences.

Read about Nazi Germany, Mao's China, and Stalin's Russia. They all claimed to be the savior of the workers but in reality were slave masters of the worst kind, with similar methods of control.

  16. I experienced the Black Panther Party first hand back around 1971 when I lived in San Francisco and worked for Pacific Gas and Electric as a meter reader. They gave a route in the Fillmore, home of the Black Panthers. The guy before me got shot and the one before him got stabbed. It was only a two hour route because a lot of it was burned down. They told me not try to read the Black Panther Headquarters. So here I am, a Nam vet Marine, the only white guy in the place and loudspeakers are shouting "Kill the White Man." I wasn't allowed to carry a gun, but I carried 10 inch steel pipe and about a 15 inch screwdriver for opening cabinets. One of them tried to rob me after I was cornered in an alley trying to read meters. He started to pull a knife. I told him if he took it from his pocket I would run my screwdriver through his left eye and leave him for dead. He said: "You don't have to get violent." I backed him out the door where a crowd of them stood and got out of there. No doubt they thought I was crazy. The old black people told me white people had never done anything to them but they were afraid to go outside because their own kind would rob them. it was sad, and I could not understand why those terrorists were allowed to exist. Eldrige Cleaver's wife lived on the route. He was in prison and wrote some famous panther tome called Soul on Ice. I also read the infamous Zebra killers gas meters. They wore weird robes and stayed inside a creepy abandoned theater or church. Found out later they killed white cab drivers at night. I hated that place, both Fillmore and San Francisco. I got out alive without being attacked anymore for an entire year. Maybe because I just wasn't afraid of any of them. I had survived Vietnam. What were these jerks going to do. The bottom line is they were racists then and they are racist now and nothing is said. If this stuff isn't stopped, there will be a race war and the white giant will rise with a horrible hand once law and order goes away.

  20. "You can’t legitimize one form of racism without legitimizing all of them."

True. The problem is that the left are convinced that their hatred, violence, bigotry, intolerance, racism, etc., are all justified. That is why they do not hesitate to spew blatantly hateful, bigoted, intolerant, racist speech. You see, they have a good reason to be all of the above because they are victims. Of what? you may ask. Pick anything. Just as long as you can blame white western culture for it, it will do.

Just like radical Islam. No wonder the left and radical Islam get on so well. Birds of a feather, and all that.

Daniel made a very important and very sharp difference between the dem and 'pub parties: the former is dominated by the extreme leftists in its midst. The latter is not dominated by the extreme right. If you want proof of that just look at the establishment republicans, who are doing their best to undermine President Trump. Did Obama have to put up with democrats who constantly threw spanners into his wheels? Anybody who answers Yes to that is a big fat shameless liar.

"If you tell all Obama critics and Trump supporters that they’re racists often enough, some will decide that maybe they are racists."

THAT is the major problem our sides faces. The timid, scaredy-pants, "moderates," who soil their underwear at the first "You are racist!" the left hurl at them. These lamentably meek, submissive, spiritless individuals do not even have the presence of mind to realize that they are being called racist by the most implacably racist people out there. Instead, the knee-jerkedly wince and cower into a corner to lick their wounds.

As long as there are people like that on our side, the left will always prevail through sheer brute force.

"Democrats need to take an honest look ..."

Sorry, Daniel. That is a faulty premise from the start. Democrats will not, CANNOT, look at anything with any degree of honesty. If they did, they would lose the argument then and there. Can't have that. The radical leftists in the democrat ranks will take good care that that never happens.

Weimar is inapt because America has a very different history and heritage than Germany 100 years ago.
You are correct that the two extremes, which are really flip sides of the same coin, not polar opposites, truly are the enemy of the sane middle.
But unlike Weimar, that sane middle is growing increasingly exasperated with and hostile to the extremes, especially the "left" one.
Hitler faced a splintered, enervated middle in Germany, one ripe for the picking.
The two extremes here face a seething, patriotic middle in America that is armed to the teeth and embraces its heritage of liberty and self governance with a bear hug.
I fear neither, especially the left will back off and so I also fear we are headed for something very violent, but I am almost certain the overwhelming casualties of it are going to be the worthless nutjob True Believers intent on ginning up something they have no clue about and will have no control over.
Things may feel differently in the urban blue hells, but out here in the rest of the country where the teeth have been clenched in, so far, stoic rage at what has been done to our country, there are millions of people ready and willing to put an end to this usurpation of our liberties, our self determination and our nation when whatever spark is struck that lights the fuse to this powder keg.

Full statement: Vietnam Veterans of America vociferously condemns neo-nazis, white supremacists, and wanna-be KKKers, whose violent, anti-American tendencies resulted in the death of Ms. Heather Heyer, who was exercising her legitimate Constitutional rights to free speech. It also resulted in the death of Trooper Berke M. M. Bates and Lt. H. Jay Cullen, Virginia State Troopers, who were trying to protect everyone's rights.

"Our parents did not sacrifice during World War II to defeat Nazism in Europe, only to have it return on our shores. When so-called protesters show up in helmets and flack jackets, carrying shields and clubs, they clearly are not planning to peacefully exercise their rights. They are trying to intimidate America, and their bigoted ideology must be resisted by all true patriots," said John Rowan, VVA National President.

  33. Will America be like France where people are killed and the murderer is given an excuse for being XY or Z so he is insane an not responsible for his actions? Remember the Brown Shirt Thugs of the Nazi Party during the Weimar Republic or the knock at the Door under Stalin. It is now at your local College Campus with the Apartheid Week against Israel and the Jews. How many deaths will it take before someone who is sane will step in and stop this mess?

  34. DD Mao: I didn't say anything about Alt. Right or Neo Nazis. You are saying if someone wants to protect their family and the police can't do then you are a Nazi if you defend yourself. I'm no fool or make believe patriot. I'm a Marine combat veteran. And Waco, Ruby Ridge, etc. were all small area incidents where the people were outnumbered and not military trained. Kids were killed at Waco, not military trained people, along with religious fanatics. If it happens all over the country, there is not much the local police can do. The military can't do anything across the entire country. I don't advocate any revolution, never did. I advocate being able to defend your family from attack. I've never been a group type person other than the Marine Corps. The VVA don't mean nothing to me. They are like every veterans group. Their main purpose is to take in money to keep their top level people in a job. How come they don't condemn BLM or other racist groups? No, it's only white people because they can get into the news. And you are naïve. I know places right now where law and order takes care of itself. You must live in a big city or you listen to the Communist media too much. I don't like being called a dangerous fool by someone who doesn't know all of what he thinks he knows. Why can't you blame all Muslims for the actions of a few? They sure can sure blame all white people for the actions of a few.

Dennis Latham: Don't attempt to steer the conversation in a direction it never was. Where did either one of us express doubts about not being able to protect our families? And where did I blame all white people for the actions of a few?

For someone who says they aren't advocating revolution you sure seem to be going out of your way to attempt to make an argument for it. For example you can't seriously believe that an significant number of members of the armed forces or even military trained personnel would join your merry band of misfits to tie up the military across the country? From what I've been reading your movement seems nothing more than rhetoric from kids who are better trained in computer games and should seriously look and see who else is behind them before marching off to the barricades.

Lastly the VVA didn't make their statement because they care what you think of them.....they could care less. They did it to protect their image and ensure these storm troopers aren't confused with or equate themselves with the organization. If you remember after the war Nam vets were portrayed with being sicko's. They don't condemn the BLM or other groups because their activist are never associated with being veterans. Anyone would think you would realize that.

But then again maybe this is one big joke and you are a troll simply pulling my chain.

  36. Sultan Knish, Nazis are leftists.

The NAZIS - Nationalist Socialist Party are totalitarian socialists.

Nazis always have been and they were and still are aligned with the Fascists, Islamists and Communists also totalitarian leftists.

Those in Charlottesville were astroturf - it was a deceitful Democrat effort to smear the Republicans, Trump, conservatives who want to protect our nation and its principles from invasion and erosion, insolvency and loss of sovereignty.

Antifa is the terrorist arm of the Democrat party, now largely a communist dominated group.

  38. DD Mao:
Merry band of misfits? What are you talking about? Revolution? You got all that from me saying in some areas the police can't protect people in a timely manner? I think you are the Liberal in disguise as a Nam vet. I never said anything about the military joining a merry band of anything. The military is not big enough to cover all 50 states if things really get out of hand. I'm too old to be bounding off in some revolution. In the end nothing will change except the country will be destroyed and freeloaders will wonder where the money and free stuff went. I watched a little of Boston yesterday with the scumbags wearing masks and just trying to pick fights and not knowing or caring why they are there. Proud of themselves because several of them can raise their hands and walk at the same time. They are being paid. They aren't angry about anything in particular. They sure aren't angry about race. One thing you don't see there are many black people, except for the BLM terrorists and maybe the terrorist Panthers. Just a bunch of idiots living for the moment and trying to terrorize innocent people. Useless scumbags. And for someone who is a not a fan of Trump, you sure act like the government is going to protect you if things go south all over. If you were in Nam, which I'm beginning to doubt, you would know what life is really like in a Socialist/ Communist country, like these idiot protesters want. It's horrible. There won't be any Pol Pot stuff in this country. That's not going to fly. By the way, I got more Nam vets service-connected on my own than any of the service organizations, especially the VVA have ever done. Not saying they are all bad. They serve a purpose if you like to wear hats and go to conventions. Other than that, they just take in money to pay salaries for the most part. Still trying to figure out how you got that I advocate revolution. I'm 100% Trump supporter which means I support my government and flag and veteran monuments. You are the one who calls Trump stupid all the time. By the way, here is a statement from you......Lastly the VVA didn't make their statement because they care what you think of them.....they could care less....that's it in a nutshell. They could care less.

  39. SDN: Read the story. Thought it was interesting and shows how everything can go south very fast. Pretty scary stuff.

ex-infantry: Please see my reply to Dennis Latham 3 post above yours dated 18th August as to why the VVA didn't include the communist involved.

SDN: I never denied there were other opinions. That is what this forum is about.

Well there you go again! You piss and moan about the VVA not doing anything but taking money when you don't even belong and don't have any idea what they do. Then you get your synthetic indignation and make believe you're insulted because I said they could care less what you think of them.

Oh and you're the one who is pulling the imitation of John Kerry and constantly mentions that you were a combat veteran. I don't need to brag.

I'm thinking you are a troll and simply yanking my chain.Life is to short to be bothered with trolls......Good by !

  42. DD Mao: Never constantly mention I was a combat vet but I bring it when you say I'm foolish and lead a band of make believe patriots. I wasn't bragging, just stating a fact. Think maybe I've said it twice since I've been commenting here. I don't like groups. I know what the VVA does. I was there when they started. I worked for the VA at the time and wrote their instruction manual for PTSD claims. I've directly or indirectly helped thousands of Nam veterans get service-connected. While I was doing this I had to listen to veterans complain how bad the service organizations treated them. I don't think the VVA even had qualified service officers back then or if they do now. They were more political with small chapters in different towns. They never got anyone service-connected back then or probably now. I don't know. I'm not a big group person. I know one thing. I use my real name. You don't. The trolls are usually the ones who don't. If you are a real Nam veteran, I salute you. By the way, the trolls usually call everyone else trolls and then bow out. But I'm sure you'll be back, even in this conversation.
